Private Banks are banks whose owner(s) are either an individual or a general partner(s) with limited partner(s). The greater parts of a private bank are usually held and managed by the private shareholders, not by the government. But they must abide by the rules of Bangladesh Bank (A Govt Banks of BD).

After Bangladesh’s emergence in 1971, the Banking Industry in Bangladesh surfaced with 6 Nationalized Commercial Banks, 2 State-Owned Specialized Banks, and 3 Foreign Banks.

In the 1980s, Bangladesh achieved significant expansion in Banking Industry due to the entrance of Private Banks. The first private-sector bank in Bangladesh is AB Bank; which was established in 1981. Now, there are 48 Private Banks in Bangladesh.
