Bangladesh got independence in 1971. But that time Bangladesh economics condition was poor and scattered. That is why Bangladesh actually needed to re-design the existing Banks for developing economical structure and ensuring a positive flow of money all over the country.
After liberation war of 1972, State Bank of Pakistan (Dhaka Branch) has been converted to the Bangladesh Bank.
These days, Bangladesh has several governments backed Banks and all the banks (including private banks) are under the umbrella of Bangladesh Bank.

At present Agrani Bank is one of the most popular govt. back Banks in Bangladesh. Agrani Bank is a state owned commercial bank. This bank is founded in 1972 right after the liberation war in 1971 and its headquarter is located at Motijheel in Dhaka. It was established combining two abandoned Banks of Pakistan and Habib Bank. After the liberation war, Agrani bank got nationalized and spread all over the country with numerous branches. Now Agrani Bank is fully owned by the Government of Bangladesh.

Rupali bank was nationalized in 1972 under the Bangladesh Bank, In 1986 Rupali Bank was Established by merging 3 popular banks named Muslim Commercial Bank Ltd, Australasia Bank Ltd, and Standard Bank Ltd.

Krishi Bank, Bangladesh:
Bangladesh is an agricultural country and most of the people are farmer staying in rural areas. In Bangladesh 85% of people are depending on agricultural But due to poverty Agricultural development in the country is almost impossible. The Government of Bangladesh has taken an initiative and established Krishi Bank Bangladesh in order to the prior development of Bangladesh’s overall agriculture ecosystem.
Now the farmers and agri-based business owners can get a loan for their development from the Krishi Bank, Bangladesh easily. This was not actually possible from other banks due to hundreds of rules & regulations and the higher margin of interest.
Nowadays Bangladesh agriculture has been much improved than the early days of the birth of Bangladesh and the full credit goes to Krishi bank and various agricultural development initiative by Bangladesh Government.
These days Krishi Bank lending money and managing lands for the farmers for the sole farmer’s development.
In 1973, Krishi bank got nationalized and the Government of Bangladesh fully own this bank.
