The Saint Martin’s Island is a small island situated in the northeastern part of the Bay of Bengal, about 9 km south of the tip of the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf point, and forming the southernmost part of Bangladesh. The nickname of this island is Narikel Jinjira. It is one of the most beautiful islands of Bangladesh and enrich with different biological resources. Saint Martin’s Island is a coral island, and it is the only coral island of Bangladesh. The island was first named ‘Jazeera’ by an Arabian sailor, 250 years ago. During British occupation the island was named after the then Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Mr. Martin as St. Martin Island. The island has 9 para/villages. They are:

- Deil Para
- Uttar Para
- Majher Para
- Dakshin Para
- Purba Para
- Konar Para
- Nazrul Para
- Golachipa
There are about 4200 people live on this island. The main livelihood of this island is fishing. Inhabitance of this island is very hospitable. The weather of this island is subtropical monsoonal climate. During the rainy season transportation between island and the mainland (Teknaf) become impossible because of the dangerous conditions on the Bay of Bengal. So from June to September the island remain closed for the tourists. From October to February, the weather remains calm, and it is the perfect time to visit the island.

How to Travel Saint Martin’s Island
There is no direct transportation available to go Saint Martin’s island. First, you have to go Teknaf. Several bus services like Hanif, Shayamoli, Unique, Saint Martin Paribahan, etc. are available to take you Teknaf. These buses leave from Dhaka to Teknaf around 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm. Once you reach Teknaf there are ships available to take you to Saint Martin’s island. These ships leave Teknaf for Saint Martin’s island at 9.30 am. During the rainy seasons the ships are not available, troller is the only medium of transport available then.

Prohibition of Saint Martin’s Island
There are some prohibitions for tourists to keep the ecological balance of this Island. They are:
- Tourists are not allowed to catch fish from the sea
- It is forbidden to hunt birds and wildlife
- Tourists are not allowed to collect wild plants
- Campfires and loud noise are not allowed in Sea beach
- Tourists are not allowed to collect or purchase corals, shells, or sea urchins
