Barisal University or simply BU is a public university in Bangladesh. The university is situated in Barisal which is a central district town in southern Bangladesh, having a long historical and cultural legacy. Officially accredited and recognized by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, BU is a very renowned education institution in Bangladesh and the country’s 33rd public university. Barisal University offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as an associate or foundation degrees, bachelor degrees, master degrees, and doctorate degrees in several areas of study.

History of Barisal University (BU)

In 1973, the then-Prime Minister Sheikh Mujibur Rahman stated he wished to establish a university in Barisal. After three decades of a strong plea from the people of Barisal, the plan was passed in ECNEC on 20 November 2008. On 22 November 2011, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the construction of the university. The educational activities of this university started on 24 January 2012. The university campus covers an area of 50 acres including academic buildings, administration building, auditorium, library, computer center, workshop, research laboratories, halls of residence, teachers’ quarter, mosque, etc.

Barisal University Admission Circular 2019 – 2020

Barisal University admission circular for honors 1st year, session 2019-2020 has not published yet. All eligible candidates can apply for admission, and they have to sit for an admission test. Eligibility of BU Admission

  • The student should pass SSC and HSC from any education Board
  • Minimum GPA of 3.00 both in SSC and HSC
  • SSC Passing year at least 2016 or later and HSC passing year at least 2018

Unit Wise Admission Requirement of BU

Each faculty has an individual admission requirement. For each unit, BU stated minimal requirements. Here are the details of the admission requirements.

KA unit (A-unit)

  • Minimum total GPA 7 with the 4th subject from Science group in both SSC/equivalent and HSC/equivalent
  • Below GPA 3 is not acceptable in any SSC or HSC

KHA unit (B-unit)

  • Minimum total GPA 6 with the 4th subject from Arts group in both SSC/equivalent and HSC/equivalent
  • Below GPA 3 is not acceptable in any SSC or HSC

GA unit (C-unit)

  • Minimum total GPA 6.5 with the 4th subject from Commerce group in both SSC/equivalent and HSC/equivalent
  • Below GPA 3 is not acceptable in any SSC or HSC
