Technical education refers to the academic and vocational methods that prepare students for jobs involving applied science and modern technology. Technical education encourages students to exert practical application of basic principles of science, mathematics, and engineering.

Like many other developed countries in the world, Bangladesh also heavily emphasizes on rearing students and equipping them with professional skills to practice fluently in fields such as science, engineering, medicine, etc. That’s why the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) was founded.

The Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) is a government organisation in charge of technical and vocational education and training. It was established in 2002 after the BTEB Act No. 8 of 2002 was passed by Parliament.

The Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) is an organization that is responsible for the accreditation of all educational institutions in the country. Stemming from a national concern about education quality, BTEB has been working to improve the quality of education for the next generation.

The board has made it mandatory for all higher technical educational institutions to become accredited by BTEB before they are allowed to award degrees. The board also helps steer technical and vocational training institutes that are not affiliated with any formal higher education institutions.

History of Bangladesh Technical Education Board

To develop technical education, Technical Education Office was established in the 1960s. And, as soon as the board was founded, it took initiatives to award degrees, Diplomas, and extend the development of technical education further.

A requirement, for establishing a full-fledged organization, that could publish curricula for trade medium, develop, control, offer certification, and evaluate, has long been felt. As a result, following Gazette No. 175 LA, East Pakistan Technical Education Board was founded on March 7, 1967, which is now known as Bangladesh Technical Education Board.

Let’s learn about those Education programs in detail –

  • Diploma in Engineering in Bangladesh

The Engineering Diploma in Bangladesh Institution is a four-year bachelor’s degree program, where the student takes a two-year pre-engineering curriculum and four years of engineering degree coursework. The Bachelor of Science in Engineering includes different areas of specialization: Civil Engineering, Textile Engineering, Leather Technology, Medical Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electronics & Telecommunications.

The engineering diploma programs are planned due to the rapid increase in demand for engineers. With increasing demand comes demands for engineers to either find work on their own or enter the industry through some kind of higher education qualification program. The technical institutes have taken note and have introduced this new model which aims at meeting this need while also setting out to plan for a better future by catering to both young students seeking education as well as those who want an alternate career path.
  • Diploma in Agriculture in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is an agricultural country. Many people turn to farms to make a living. However, there is a lack of professional and skilled farmers in Bangladesh. Thus, the number of people who are involved in agriculture is not enough to satisfy the demand for goods and services. With this situation, many institutions have begun offering courses on agriculture depending on the demand for farmers and professionals in this field.

A diploma in Agriculture degree program from BTEB accredited colleges can give students a great number of skills that they can use in their careers once they graduate from college. This course will provide students with hands-on experience as well as theory-based knowledge about agronomy, horticulture, livestock production, environmental management, and more.
  • Diploma in Fisheries in Bangladesh

Bangladesh has a steady population of fisheries, but the country’s fishing sector is not doing well. There are many factors including low production of fish, lack of proper infrastructure, and insufficient staff. The Fisheries Department in Bangladesh has introduced a diploma course for fisheries to train more staff and provide better support for the industry.

However, more than half of the students who have applied for this course failed to complete it. Despite these challenges, there is hope that this will be developed into an industry with future prospects.
